Mutilated by land mines
|
... she just wanted to wash her face and make herself pretty for her young husband and went down to the brook. Only for a short while had they known about her pregnancy and they were even happier than before. That's why she wanted to be back in the village to see her beloved husband as soon as possible. And she took a short cut. There was a land mine. Three times she needed an operation. But the baby didn't survive. Not the mine injuries, but the strong medication took its life. But that wasn't the only loss she suffered. Her husband left her and never came back. He couldn't imagine spending his life with a crippled woman...
... also her enemy, a Burmese soldier, depends on the help of the Mae Tao Clinic. The mine shredded his right foot and seriously lacerated his left leg. Apart from that, he lost both of his forearms, his eyesight and most of his hearing. He would not be able to survive without the help of others. He would die miserably. But here, there is no distinction between friend and enemy. Everyone who comes here has already suffered enough. That's why nobody is left alone, dicriminated against or accused of his or her past...
... giving up? Never. He is still a teenager. He ran into a mine. But he doesn't give up. He's working in the Mae Tao Clinic and found a way to survive inspite of his injury. He has learned to manufacture protheses for his fellows in misery. He loves to play rattan ball in his free time. And he can even use his crutches to do acrobatic tricks with the ball.
