Alarming trend: school closures on the Thai-Myanmar border
After almost 50 years of a cruel military regime Myanmar/Burma opened up recently. However, what seems positive leads to a new tragedy, especially for the children.
Most of the organizations which were active in and around Mae Sot have left and started their activities inside Myanmar. Migrants and refugees in Mae Sot are left alone as they don’t feel yet ready to return back home due to the lack of infrastructure, schools and hospitals.
Currently 14 schools, so-called migrant learning centers, are about to shot down due to funding constraints. Around 2.250 children are affected and will lose the possibility of education and are at risk to become victims of trafficking, prostitution, exploitation and drugs.
Help without Frontiers tries desperately to help these schools and needs YOUR financial support. 75 € are enough to guarantee a school year for one child.
At the end of May 7 of the 14 schools will definitely close down if we are not able to help them financially. Every donation you entrust to us will be invested 100% in the schools.
