Along the border, unpredictable emergency situations regularly emerge. There are constant new waves of refugees from Burma, the latest being during the fighting along the border after the elections in Burma. When the city of Myawaddi was attacked, 20.000 refugees crossed the border over night. As usual in such situations, our team in Mae Sot delivered emergency help, provided tents, delivered food and blankets.
Furthermore, many people along the border are living in poverty. If an accident happens, for example if a house burns down or the area is flooded, the people are left with nothing. Our team in Mae Sot is always ready to deliver clothes, mosquito nets, blankets and food in such situations.
During these operations, the coordination and communication with other local aid agencies is very important. This is done by our social centre team in Mae Sot (day and night if needed).
