The primary and middle school KM 42 was founded by the headmaster Htite Thu Aung in 2007. Since 2008 we support the school which is located 42 km south of Mae Sot.
The parents work as daily labourers in the fields for the farmers. Many of them came after the disastrous cyclone Nargis to Thailand. Sadly during the end of the year, due to the financial hardship of their parent, many of the children are taken out of school to help the parents during the harvest, often at very young ages.
In 2009 the school was overnight shut down and destroyed, because of a jealous farmer and his good relationship to the police. The new location is save and accepted by the community.
Since 2010 the Spanish organisation „Colabora Birmania“ supports the school in close cooperation with us, built school and dormitory buildings and pays part of the running costs.
The name KM42 comes from the location at the 42 km post on the street from Mae Sot to Umphang.
