History:
The school was founded by the headmaster and his wife in 2005, and has been supported by Help without Frontiers since 2006. In December 2008 the headmaster passed away and his wife Sebel took over his position.
Most of the parents work in the surrounding fields, and before the school was established, the children would follow their parents to work. The school provides a safe environment for the children, where they have room to play.
In 2008 a small dormitory opened next to the school, where 20 students can live. This dormitory allows the students to finish the school year and takes the burden off the parents, who have struggle for sufficient income. The "Yummy! Meals for Schools" programme provides the school and dormitory with daily food. This dormitory always gets a little more food, as many children come early to school for breakfast and leave after dinner when their families don't have enough money to buy food. This school year they have classes up to grade 5.
In December 2011 the school surprisingly had to move out of their buidlung. Now it is located a few houses down the road.
Main problems:
- Parents' poor living conditions
- Parents' seasonal moving
Goals and plans:
- Reduce child and adult illiteracy in the target area
- Prevent children from being used as child labor, keep them from involvement with drugs and save them from being trafficked into the sex industry
- Increase children’s knowledge of their mother tongue and introduce them to literature
- Develop good character
- Strengthen self-confidence and self-reliance through good discipline
