History:
The Nursery opened in June 2008, and was the first nursery in the area. Before the nursery opened, there were already two primary and one middle school, but no place for the youngest children, and the parents would take them with them to work in the fields. This made their work harder and put their children's health at risk. The nursery provides a safe and healthy environment for the youngest children of the area. The area was under attack between October and December 2008, during which time the school had to close for security reasons. The area is now under control of the DKBA (Democratic Karen Buddhist Army) but the school is running again.
Main problems:
- The children have to go to the fields with their parents, as no one can look after them at home. Parents have to work and take care of their children.
- Children are bitten by mosquitos, they play in the mud and have no clean drinking water in the fields, putting their health is put at risk. Additionally the area is heavily mined and pesticides are used in the fields.
Goals and plans:
- Provide a clean and safe environment for the chidlren
- Support the community
- Day care for children
