Rays of Youth
Rays of Youth – our youth project
Rays of Youth – a symbol for enthusiasm and hope for the future.
As they grow up, the youth at the migrant schools become increasingly exposed to the dangers of the street. Without the right education and the right support, and without interesting activities for their free time, they are in danger of losing focus and putting themselves and their future at risk.
Through different activities and projects, the "Rays of Youth" project aims to bring together youth from different ethnic backgrounds, keep them from the streets and its dangers, and morally develop them for society.
The RoY team is made up of 5 youths, who dedicated the first year to their own personal training. Now they must pass on what they have learnt to the youth at the migrant schools. Regular trainings by organizations such as Save the Children UK and MTY EXIT deepen their knowledge and give them new creative ideas on how to pass this knowledge on.
For their own trainings they use posters, videos, animation films, role play, puppet theatres and songs, which are composed and written by the members of the team themselves. A daily one hour radio show in 3 languages has been added to the programme.
External experts are also invited to join these programmes; amongst others the Thai traffic police and drug police have taken part.
The RoY Team also set up a peer group. From every school students (peers) are chosen to receive training and pass on their knowledge and values to their schools. They also coordinate contact between themselves and RoY and other peer groups.
In January 2011 a multicultural music project was started. The youth are trained at the Thai music school and encouraged to play music together. A band and a choir have been planned, as well as performances at public events in the migrant community. The project should strengthen the trust and understanding between youth from different ethnic backgrounds.
The "Rays of Youth" project was started by the Help without Frontiers Thailand Foundation and is supported by Help without Frontiers (South Tyrol and Austria), the Youth symphonic orchestra South Tyrol, the association of music schools South Tyrol, the Vinery Lageder, The Youth Group Jump, Save the children UK, MTV EXIT and DEPDC.
