One of the biggest problems is providing refugees with food and clean drinking water. Malnourishment is widespread, as well as diarrhoea and other diseases spread by dirty drinking water and bad hygiene.

The economic crisis forced more people into poverty, leaving many parents unable to properly feed their children. Many children were coming to school malnourished, sickly and weak. Other children had to help their parents to earn a living and were therefore taken out of school to work, beg or collect garbage.

Help without Frontiers is trying to improve the situation through the "Yummy! Meals for Schools" food programme, which has been extended with a fruit and milk programme. Through this, we are trying to keep the children at school whilst improving their health.

More and more children come hungry and malnourished to school. Their parents are victims of the economic crisis and cannot afford to feed their children properly anymore. Many children have to leave school to work or beg instead.

To effectively improve the children's health, we serve a portion of fruit or 200ml milk once a week. For the children this is a delicious and healthy extra, because they hardly ever get milk or fruit at home.

Drinking water

The supply of clean drinking water is one of the biggest problems. Often the refugees only have acess to dirty water, and many fall very sick with dangerous cases of diarrhea.
