On the border they do not have an integrated school system. In Burma and on the border they practise frontal teaching. The pupils learn by repeating the words over and over again. The teacher is the only authoritative person and does not accept any disobedience or independent, creative contributions from the pupils.
Dr. Thein Lwin is an academic pedagogue who has organised a program where teachers learn, through intensive continuing education, how to be a modern pedagogue.
Using strict assessment criteria, they choose 50 teachers each year to spend 9 months in Chiang Mai, Thailand, learning Dr. Thein Lwin's modern teaching methods. Dr. Lwin gets assistance from Burmese people living abroad and from voluntary experts in European universities.
The pupils become motivated to work on their own and are actively involved during their lessons. They have already noticed amazing learning success where these methods have been used.
We offer 3 scholarships for the 9 month course, at a rate of 1000 Euros per person, coming to a total of 3000 Euros. The course fees, board and lodging are all covered for the participating teachers who are also provided with additional monthly pocket money.
